Per Diem Court Reporter: Circuit Court for Caroline County

 

THE DEPARTMENT: The Circuit Court for Caroline County oversees and manages all types of cases to include civil, criminal, family, and juvenile matters, from prescheduled hearings to processing emergency requests and motions, some of which include both in person and remote hearings, to jury trials.

 

ABOUT THE POSITION: The Court Reporter is responsible for recording and noting/tagging court hearings as assigned by the Court Administrator, as well as processing requests for audio recordings and transcripts. The incumbent reports to the Administrative Judge and Court Administrator.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to work part-time hours between 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Monday through Friday) with flexibility for scheduled days and hours.
  • Maintain a regular, punctual, and reliable level of attendance.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Uphold confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply the fundamentals of business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, standard office practices and procedures, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read, understand and reference operator manuals.
  • Ability to operate recording equipment and computer.
  • Display a level of maturity, tact and professionalism in speech and proper courtroom attire.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work in close cooperation with Court Administrator, Judicial Officers, court personnel, and attorneys.
  • Record hearings in both courtrooms as assigned by Court Administrator or designee. This includes adding notes/tags for all hearings.
  • Maintain back up recordings.
  • Maintain and track the record of requests and payments made for CD recordings and transcripts to include transcript estimate letters; deliver/mail as appropriate.
  • Prepare and mail CD recordings.
  • Assist with replaying recordings upon request.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited high school to include, or supplemented by, courses in typing, computer operations OR experience as an assistant/secretary in a law office.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and understanding of the operations of a court system of general jurisdiction.

 

PER DIEM SALARY: $116.00 per day
